Relationship/Couple Therapy
Whether faced with a romantic relationship, a family relationship, friendships, sexual relationships or relationships at work, there’s often no small truth in the saying ‘misery loves company’ – our relationships can cause us a lot of grief, heartache and pain as well as being a source of profound joy and comfort. And yet – whilst other people can cause us upset and challenge, it’s our relationships that offer us (or have the potential to offer) companionship and delight.
As a Family and Couple psychotherapist part of my job is to enable more open, clearer, and more connected conversations between you, whether you stay together, decide to be apart, make a change or keep on keeping on in your patterns of relating – all of which is for you to decide. But as your therapist I offer ideas and feedback about the dynamic between you, supporting you to notice and then work on unhelpful ways of communicating and relating. For most people seeking relationship therapy, they want their partner or other person to love and connect with them in their preferred way - for their partner or family member, friend, or lover to change. As your therapist, I’ll support each of you to convey what you think, feel and experience, and help each of you to understand what’s going on for your partner or other person and see things from where they stand. This isn’t always straightforward or easy which is why having a therapist can support this be a lot easier, stepping in when your communication is becoming destructive or breaking down, or when you might not see the contradictions. A therapist can help you feel more able to take a risk with each other, or be brave and take a risk with yourself.
Whether you’re a cis/heterosexual couple in a monogamous relationship, consensually non-monogamous, in open or polyamorous relationships and seeking support for a primary couple, a thruple, part of a metamour or polycule – or if you’re part of the BDSM-Kink or swinging scene, asexual, straight, bi or pan, gay, lesbian (or without an obvious/easily defined sexual identity) you’re welcome!
Whatever your relationship, you’re welcome here.
